First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Bogdan, 28 years old, from Bucharest, Romania. I really don't know if this message will be actually read by Bono himself, but I'm writing it as if it'll be.
I read your excellent article and, of course, I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately, I don't think I can help or change things in any way in that matter, so, instead, I dare to tell you a few words about your band and my country.
I've been a huge U2 fan for almost a decade. Together with friends, we established an U2 fan community here in Romania. We did U2 tributes (in which, I proudly mention that I was organiser, guitarist and singer) and we also launched the last U2 album in Romania, in collaboration with a music magazine and a record company. I am also the writer of the one and only U2 book every published in Romania (in 2002) and I will publish another one this fall. And now I will cut straight to the chase: We want U2 in Romania! Maybe when you'll do your next world tour. You've never been here and that is not acceptable. There are thousands and thousands of people waiting for a chance to see you perform, after they've been committed fans for so many years. There is also a petition we signed in order to get your band here, in Romania.
As you can see, more than 7,000 people have already signed it. Big bands are already visiting us. Last year it was Depeche Mode, this summer we'll have the legendary Rolling Stones. And many more. The word everywhere sounds like that: U2 is the only legend left to visit us.
So, my dear gents and damn fine musicians, I don't mean to be rude but this is not a kindly request, this is actually a demand. Honour us with your visit next time you're on tour!
